Safety and trust

Safety is a process, not a promise or a statistic.

DOD is building layered checks and clear responsibilities across driver verification, vehicle readiness, trip monitoring and incident support.

01

Identity checks

Verify the applicant's identity using approved information and consent.

02

Licence eligibility

Check current licence details and relevant classes or endorsements.

03

Work eligibility

Confirm the applicant can lawfully provide independent services in New Zealand.

04

Background review

Complete applicable criminal-history and ongoing compliance checks.

Safety depends on the platform, driver and vehicle provider

No check removes every risk. Clear information and prompt reporting remain essential.

Safety guidance for real journeys

Why driver verification uses several checks

Identity alone does not establish driving eligibility. DOD's planned process combines identity, licence status, relevant classes and endorsements, work eligibility and applicable criminal-history information. Ongoing expiry and status monitoring is also important after initial approval.

First steps after an incident

Prioritise immediate safety, call 111 when required, avoid admitting liability, record relevant details and notify the appropriate authorities, insurer and DOD support channel. The applicable customer and driver agreements should guide the next steps.

Built responsibly

Clear checks. Clear roles. Clear support pathways.

Final safety, insurance and incident processes remain subject to operational and professional review.Customer Responsibilities
